When I first read these scriptures years and years ago and every day since, I always took it literally. I felt it meant I would be safe from physical harm. I do believe it means that, but I have also come to have a different revelation of this verse of scripture.
Abiding in the Shadow of the Almighty
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide 1 under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. 14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. 15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation
" (3) Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler and from the noisome pestilence. (11) For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands lest thou dash thy foot against a stone"
About four years ago I sat in an attorney's office to sign closing papers for a refinance loan of my home when a ministering angel nudged me to take my time and read the papers. I had a feeling of nervousness already and so when I felt that spiritual lnudge, I obeyed. As I read the first page I came to the finance charges and saw 'variable rate of 7%. I froze and nervously told them I couldn't sign this at this rate. They then tried to threaten me into keeping the variable rate saying the bank will probably increase the rate if I want a fixed rate. "I don't care at least I will know what my monthly obligations." Within a week or two we closed with a 7.5% rate.
I am one who escaped being snared by the fowler; my angels bared me up lest I dashed my foot against a legal stone. Many who agreed on a variable mortgage rate ended up losing their homes. They did not receive protection from the noisome pestilence; the current housing pestilence.
Ministering angels surround us and daily work to keep us from falling. We are not always in tune with their nudges and prompts, so when we ignore them we obviously fall. The Holy Spirit of God leads us into all truth and the Holy One our Redeemer promises to lead us in the way we should go (Isaiah 48:17) Angels receive assignments daily regarding us. We don't have to tackle anything situation alone.
So seek Godly counsel before making decisions, ask for revelation and discernment. Know that you are not alone in any situation. God, out Father has an expected end, one of peace not of evil for us (Jeremiah 29:11), so He is determined for us to WIN as written in II Corinthian 2:14.
REMEMBER: "For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands lest thou dash thy foot against a stone."
Consider reading Psalm 91 every day so the angels can hear the voice of God's Word and perform it. (Psalm 103:20)
